Site:  Bank St. Between Main St. and Park St. in Peekskill, NY

Artists Curt Belshe and Lise Prown have created 8 large banners that are hung on Peekskill city lampposts along both sides of the one block area of Bank St. abutting the original site of  he Southard Robertson Foundry and the current location of the Peekskill Farmer's Market. This project is sponsored by the Peekskill Arts Council with funding from the Westchester Arts Council.

Peekskill was well known for its stoveworks and the skill and beauty of the cast iron stove that were produced here. The stoveworks utilized the local supply of iron that from our area.  These stoves were sold across the nation and provided an economic catalyst for the growth of the city during the 19th Century.

During this same period Americans were formulating ideas about work and about amily life that are both familiar to modern viewer and in some instances, archaic.  The artists have used short quotes, from the famous and the obscure of this period, that resonate with a modern viewer.
